Before you throw it away—or put it back in the drawer for another three years—take a picture.
AI may be able to help identify what you are looking at, explain what it is commonly used for, and give you clues about whether it belongs to something you still own.
It may not always know exactly what the mystery object is.
But sometimes narrowing “random black cable” down to “probably a power cable for a small electronic device” is enough to jog your memory.
What to Tell AI
Give AI the parts that may help identify the object.
You can say it naturally and messily.
Try Something Like
Take a clear photo and tell AI where you found the object, roughly how big it is, whether there are any words or numbers on it, and what you think it might have belonged to.
Example Conversation
What is this? I found it in the junk drawer. It's about four inches long and says Anker on the side. I took pictures of both ends.
It looks like a short USB-C to USB-A adapter cable. Anker makes a lot of charging and computer accessories, so this was probably used to connect a USB-C device to an older USB port.
Could it have gone to my old wireless headphones?
Possibly. If you still have the headphones, show me the charging port. We can compare it instead of guessing.
