Overview
Warranties can be surprisingly difficult to read.
What is covered may be described in one section.
The exclusions are somewhere else.
The time limit is buried near the beginning, while the rules for making a claim are three pages later.
AI can help you read the whole thing together.
Give it the warranty and explain what happened.
Ask it to find the parts that seem relevant, translate them into plain language, and point out anything that may affect whether your problem is covered.
AI cannot approve your claim.
But it may help you figure out whether making one is worth your time—and what you should know before you call.
What to Tell AI
Give AI the warranty and explain what happened.
You can say it naturally and messily.
Try Something Like
Show AI the warranty or coverage document. Tell it what broke, roughly when you bought the item, how the problem happened, and anything you have already tried.
Example Conversation
My washing machine stopped draining. I bought it about a year and a half ago. Here's the warranty. Can you tell me if this sounds like something they might cover?
Possibly. The warranty says mechanical and electrical failures caused by defects are covered for two years. A drainage failure could fall under that, but there is an exclusion for damage caused by clogged external drain lines or improper installation. Based on the document, the important question is whether the problem is inside the washer or in the home's drain line.
The sink next to it drains fine, and I already checked the washer's drain hose for a kink. Does that change anything?
It makes the external-drain explanation less obvious, although it does not prove the washer itself is defective. Based on the warranty language, I think this is reasonable to pursue as a claim. I would have the purchase date, model number, and a description of the checks you already made ready when you contact them.
Helpful Variations
“Explain this warranty in plain English. Focus on what is covered, what is excluded, and how long the coverage lasts.”
“This is what happened to my product. Find the sections of the warranty that seem most relevant to this problem.”
“Based on this warranty and what happened, what information should I have ready before I contact the company?”
“Look specifically for exclusions, deadlines, or claim requirements that I might miss.”
Next Steps
Once AI finds the relevant language, ask it to:
- Quote or point you to the section it is relying on
- Explain an exclusion in simpler language
- Separate what the warranty clearly says from what is uncertain
- Make a list of information you may need for the claim
- Help you describe the problem clearly
- Compare the company's response with the warranty language
- Find a claim deadline or notification requirement
- Draft questions to ask customer service
