Rescue a Meal After Something Went Wrong

You added too much salt. You skipped a step. You read “one teaspoon” immediately after adding one tablespoon. Now you are staring at dinner wondering if the whole meal is ruined.

Overview

Cooking mistakes happen fast.
Before you throw the meal away—or start randomly adding ingredients to fix it—tell AI exactly what happened.
Often, the most useful question is not “What's wrong with my dinner?”
It's “Here's what accidentally happened. Can I still save this?”

What to Tell AI

Give AI the parts that change the answer. If you do not know an exact amount, say that plainly.

Try Something Like

Tell AI what you were making, what went wrong, roughly how much food is involved, whether it is still cooking, and anything you already tried to fix.

Example Conversation

You:

I'm making a big pot of chicken soup and accidentally dumped way too much salt in it. The lid came off the container. Is dinner ruined?

AI:

Maybe not. Don't add anything else yet. About how much soup is in the pot, and do you have any idea how much salt went in?

You:

Big stockpot, maybe half full. No clue on the salt. It poured for probably two seconds before I stopped it.

AI:

Since we don't know the amount, taste a spoonful first. If it's unpleasantly salty but still edible, dilution may help. Do you have water, unsalted broth, or more of the soup ingredients?

Helpful Variations

I Added Too Much

“I accidentally used a tablespoon instead of a teaspoon. Here's the recipe and where I am now.”

I Skipped a Step

“I forgot to brown the meat before adding everything else. Can I recover from that?”

I Used the Wrong Ingredient

“I used baking soda instead of baking powder. Tell me honestly if this is fixable.”

Slow Me Down

“Give me one thing to try at a time. Wait for me to tell you what happened before we keep going.”

Next Steps

Once AI understands the mistake, ask it to:

  • Give you one correction at a time
  • Scale the fix to the amount of food you made
  • Work with ingredients you actually have
  • Explain what the mistake changed
  • Tell you honestly when the meal probably cannot be rescued
  • Simplify the instructions
  • Help turn the meal into something different if the original plan is gone
